What is high potential and gifted education?
Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
Teachers at Riverbank actively support HPGE students across all subjects, providing differentiated instruction and tailored learning experiences to challenge and extend their abilities. We achieve this through:
- Differentiated Teaching and Learning Programs designed to enhance and challenge higher-order thinking
- Fluid and flexible student groupings aligned with learning goals
- Student-led goal sharing sessions with parents
- Use of formative and summative assessments to track progress and tailor instruction
- Direct instruction in critical thinking and problem-solving techniques
- Personalised feedback to encourage goal setting
- Encouraging classroom environments that foster risk-taking, creativity, and collaboration among peers
Riverbank offers a diverse range of opportunities and experiences designed to nurture and support students' interests and curiosity.
- Dance Groups available across K-6, offering chances to perform and compete at both local and state levels
- Choirs for 2-6 students, with opportunities to perform throughout the Sydney area
- Annual Captivate Creative Arts performance night showcasing the talents of all dance, choir and drama groups
- STEAM and Technology clubs focused on utilising 3D printing applications to design and problem-solve
- Public Speaking programs within the school, including the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking events
- School Debating Teams
- Participation in various writing competitions.

- Student-led Parliament sessions where Year 6 leaders listen to student voices and suggestions across the school

- Opportunities to showcase artwork in statewide exhibitions
- Chances to perform at state and other creative arts festivals
- Participation in Maths Olympiad program to enhance creative and critical mathematical thinking
- Engagement in the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee
- Access to the representative school sport pathway and PSSA events, allowing students to trial and compete at regional, state, and national levels.
